Assistant Image Analysis Scientist

 Oracle Bio are a fast-growing, Scotland-based contract research organisation who provide specialist digital pathology services to the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology sector.

 As a company, we are pioneering the use of digital pathology for research and development in crucial areas such as cancer research; utilising cutting-edge technology such as Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing (AWS).

 Our clients include a number of the top 10 global pharmaceutical companies, innovative biotech companies, and through a recent collaboration project, we are working in partnership with organisations such as the NHS, Cancer Research UK and the University of Glasgow.

 Due to the company’s continued expansion, we are looking to strengthen our operations with the addition of our new Image Analysis Assistant Scientist role.

 

What will the job look like?

 You’ll assist Scientists and Senior Scientists in computer-based image analysis of histopathology sections to generate high quality quantitative data for our clients. You’ll be working as part of a friendly, efficient, and collaborative team, and will be expected to demonstrate excellent attention to detail as you combine your biology knowledge with good computing skills.

 

 You should apply if: 

  • You have a minimum of National Grade 5 in Biology and/or Computer Science (or equivalent)
  • You have experience of histology, immunohistochemistry and/or image analysis would be beneficial, but not essential as training will be provided
  • You’re passionate about learning every day and working in a collaborative environment

 

 You’ll be responsible for: 

  • Supporting the digital image analysis team review and annotate images, to provide services using state-of-the-art image analysis computer programmes
  • Extracting and summarising data using Excel data spreadsheets
  • Graphing data, carrying out statistical analysis and contributing to the generation of high-quality written data reports.
  • Supporting client image analysis service requirements through efficient communication methods including e-mail, teleconferences, online meetings or face to face meetings.

Skills & qualifications you will gained:

We will provide you with training and working closely with senior members of your team, you will receive tailored mentorship to help you succeed. You’ll carry out detailed analysis and help make recommendations that impact our clients’ businesses. This experience, combined with deep technical training, and an emphasis on continual learning through different projects will equip you with the skills to really make a difference.

As our employees need to be digitally minded, we will develop your ability to competently and confidently use digital applications in the workplace. Through the QA Modern Apprenticeship and with the support of your line manager you will work towards a Digital Applications HNC progressing to Data Analytics HND. This training is delivered using a blended learning approach, combining a mix of classroom training with online resources, coupled with work-based assessment.

This is not a role for a recent Science graduate, but would provide a working background for someone planning to study sciences in the future.
