First of all, a belated Happy New Year and best wishes to everyone in 2019!
What a year 2018 turned out to be! It was indeed another exciting and busy year for OracleBio across many aspects of the company. In our new annual ‘A Year in Review’ blog, we present to you the key highlights and insights into our activity from the past year.
From Target Characterisation to Immune Cell Quantification, what kept us busy?
On the image analysis front, Immuno-oncology R&D remains a significant portion of the studies we performed for our clients. Dr. Lorcan Sherry, Chief Scientific Officer, noted that requests for quantification of immune cells within tumor and stroma compartments, along with target co-localisation and immune spatial profiling were all high in demand.
In other therapeutic areas, we provided support for NASH, Fibrosis, Autoimmune disease, Dermatology and Cardiovascular R&D studies, to name a few. Multiplex Immunofluorescence analysis requests continued to grow to support Oncology R&D where we performed clinical studies requiring analysis from 3-plex to 6-plex staining. There was also an increased demand for evaluation of IHC staining within Tissue Microarrays (TMAs) to support target characterisation or therapeutic disease selection (see more in our blog).
Planes, Trains and Automobiles…
We got ‘out and about’ throughout 2018, with multiple Client visits to the US, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Netherlands and the UK. Growth from the inside out
From the company side, we have continued to expand our team with the addition of new Finance, Business Development and Marketing staff (see more in our blog). In July we underwent an internal Organisational Development Review, which identified a number of approaches to improve efficiencies across the company. This led to implementing new team and project management structures plus creating new roles in Finance and Contract Management.
Up in the Cloud!
2018 also marked the start of OracleBio’s utilisation of Amazon AWS cloud storage to complement our current IT infrastructure within a local GXP compliant data center (read more). The ability to offer our clients the option to receive and transfer images via Amazon AWS will reduce timelines to return data while also providing more choice to our clients on how they interact with us.
